WordPress 2.3 - Blog Updated

WordPressJust finished updating the blog engine (WordPress) to 2.3 which was released today and I have to say I’m liking the new version a lot. The upgrade was super simple. Used the Wordpress Database Backup plugin to easily make a backup in case anything went wrong and I needed to restore. Then I downloaded my themes folder so I could upload it after the upgrade since I made edits to it and didn’t want to bother making the edits again. Next I deleted all of the blog files (yes on purpose) and uploaded the new version after editing the config.php file. Then I just ran the upgrade.php file which upgraded the database for me and I was finished. After uploading the theme and plugins everything was complete.

With 2.3 comes:

  1. Native tag support
  2. Update notification
  3. Canonical URLs
  4. Pending review
  5. New advanced WYSIWYG editor.

Plus many other things.

It’s nice to have tag support now built into WordPress and not have to use a plugin to try and get tags working. Personally I think I’ll stick with using categories for the time being because I like having a list I can go through and check off each one. Easier than trying to remember what tags I previously used or come up with new ones since the majority of my posts use the same tags/categories. The update notification is an excellent feature that I’m grateful for. No more needing to always check the plugins directory to see if there are any updates.
